Gateway Riders Persevere Through the Precip
What was forecast to be a nice spring day, turned out to be rainy and chilly. Gateway Riders were undeterred. I rode out to Ted Schmitz place in Washington through a driving rainstorm to find a handful of riders who had gathered for an excellent Egg Casserole Breakfast.
After a wet ride to Florissant, we enjoyed three varieties of soup ably prepared by Phil Sulfstede. As the day progressed, we would see clear skies, but showers always seemed to return. Each stop seemed to have more people. Some in cars, others went home to swap cars for their moto.
After soup we headed back west to the King’s beautiful home in Lake St. Louis. Michelle and Dennis put together multiple salads, each better than the last. Mid afternoon, it was time to head south to Larry Floyd’s place, off Telegraph Rd. not too far from Andre’s, site of our Christmas Party. Larry put together a wonderful Sweet & Sour Chicken over Rice dish. Larry is an excellent bird photographer and I was lucky enough to get a close up look at some of his work.
Finally the rain/mist subsided, and we headed for Hillsboro where Jim Shaw served up a tasty Apple Pie a la mode and Peach Cobbler. The winding road to Jim’s place was a pleasant change from the interstate we had been on much of the day. All in all, a terrific day with wonderful food and great conversation! No one went home hungry! Huge thanks to our hosts!
