1996 BMW R1100GS ABS

1996 BMW R1100GS ABS35,464 Original Miles, $2900.00

Up for sale a clean, well-maintained low mileage single owner 1996 BMW R1100GS. This was my weekend rally and camping bike. Mainly ridden fully loaded with luggage and camping gear for long distance miles on paved tarmac or an occasional manicured gravel road. Not a daily rider. Always garaged. There are no mechanical issues with this bike. All lights and switches are in good working condition.

This 1996 BMW R1100GS has the updated metal tank and is powered by an air- and oil-cooled 1,085cc 4-valve opposed twin with a five-speed transmission shaft drive. Seat Height: Adjustable from 33.1 inches to 33.8 inches (840–860 mm). Wheelbase: 59.4 inches (1,509 mm). Max Power: 80 hp (59 kW) @ 6,750 rpm. Max Torque: 72 lb-ft (98 Nm) @ 5,250 rpm. Top Speed: Approximately 121 mph (195 km/h).

The bike was purchased new in 1997. Factory equipment includes Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection with upgraded Bosch/EnDuraLast EV14 4-nozzle fuel injectors, a two-into-one exhaust system, wire-spoke wheels, triple disc anti-lock brakes, a Telelever front end, and a preload-adjustable monoshock fitted to a Paralever single-sided swingarm. This R1100GS is offered with Rider’s Manual, two keys and a blank master. A clean Missouri title is in the seller’s name.

Wire-spoke wheels are mounted with long-distance touring Metzler Tourance tires on aluminum rims measuring 19″ (110/80) up front and 17″ (150/70) rear. More than half life tread remains on both tires. Suspension consists of a Telelever front end with a stock BMW manual adjustable preload monoshock. A rear Paralever single-sided swingarm has the stock BMW manual adjustable shock. Anti-lock braking is handled by Brembo calipers mounted over dual cross-drilled discs up front and a rear single disc. ABS activates when the motorcycle reaches 4.0 mph. ABS can be turned off completely or reset via the ABS dashboard switch.

Rider Notes: This model year bike rides best when the bike is not short shifted. Bogging the engine is not recommended. The engine has the torque to recover a short shift, but the transmission and final drive components will last many more worry-free miles if the rider keeps the engine in the optimal RPM range and does not stress the drive components. A mid-range fuel will work in most riding scenarios and is required when riding mountainous terrain. In summer heat or fully loaded with luggage and/or a passenger, higher octane fuel is recommended. The ABS works flawlessly with a fully charged battery, so it is advised keep the battery on a tender when the bike is not being used.
