I joined Gateway Riders in the Spring of 1978, riding as a passenger behind my husband, Dave. By the Fall of ‘78, I had been to my first National Rally in Rutland, VT, had taken the beginner MSF course and started riding solo. In 1979 I took 2nd place long distance female rider in the BMWMOA mileage contest having racked up 21K miles on my first bike, a ’78 R80/7. I rode an EML R100/7 till both of my boys were big enough to ride as passengers. Since then I have been riding my ’87 K75. I have served as newsletter director and was the rally chair the first two years that the Falling Leaf was in Potosi.

Fielding Childress started riding for the first time about 10 years ago. He started as a very conservative rider with an F-650. He was visiting the dealership one weekend and was coaxed to test ride a used R-1150R Roadster. He was immediately hooked on the power and safer feeling aboard the larger bike and traded for it. After retiring, Fielding loved the sport and motorcycle community so much that he took a part time position at the St. Louis BMW motorcycle dealer where he became hooked again on the new style K1200GT. He currently rides the K-bike, earning a top ten position on the club’s annual mileage award listing.

I've been riding since 1994. I currently have 3 BMWs: 1994 K75, 1994 R100Mystic and 2003 R1150R. I ride anywhere from 7000 to 15,000 miles a year, although being "green" person, it may tend toward the lower end for a while.

Started riding in 1958 on a new Triumph Tiger Cub 200cc. I was 12. Saved up from summer jobs and on my 16th birthday before I started high school I had a new 1961 Triumph Bonneville delivered. I've been riding ever since. Haven't been without a bike for 52 years.
